Free Burma Alliance and Network 355 with support from Amnesty International held a fundraiser on October 16th, 2010 to raise money for critical cardiac surgeries for four Burmese children cared for by the Burma Children Medical Fund at the Mae Tao Clinic – Shin Aw Ba Tha, Hell May Say, Surin, and Thant Zin Win. The idea of helping these children was born when we came across a twelve year old Novice Monk named Shin Aw Ba Tha while visiting Mae Tao clinic in Mae Sot (Thai/Burma border). This peaceful and charming child is suffering from the congenital heart disease. While shooting a video about the boy, we became determined to get him a life saving heart operation that he so desperately needed.

We are very happy to announce that thanks to the support from Credit Suisse Foundation and other institutional and individual donors we achieved our goal by securing $20,000 ($10,000 raised and $10,000 in matching funds) that allows us to support all four surgeries (each operation is $5,000). Two surgeries are already scheduled for Hell May Say on January 17th, 2011 and for Surin on March 14th, 2011. Stay tuned for our health updates about the other two children.

We are deeply appreciative and thank all our supporters for giving these kids an opportunity for healthy lives.
