Free Burma Alliance and Network 355 with support from Amnesty International held a fundraiser on October 16th, 2010 to raise money for critical cardiac surgeries for four Burmese children cared for by the Burma Children Medical Fund at the Mae Tao Clinic – Shin Aw Ba Tha, Hell May Say, Surin, and Thant Zin Win. The idea of helping these children was born when we came across a twelve year old Novice Monk named Shin Aw Ba Tha while visiting Mae Tao clinic in Mae Sot (Thai/Burma border). This peaceful and charming child is suffering from the congenital heart disease. While shooting a video about the boy, we became determined to get him a life saving heart operation that he so desperately needed.

In addition to promoting other women’s projects, Network 355 creates and administers its own programs- integrated marketing/fundraising campaigns in support of the specific causes. For 2010-2011 we chose to support two programs: Burma Program and WeHearts Program.

Network 355’s mission is to promote exceptional women who stand up for positive change in the world. Aung San Suu Kyi, a Noble Prize Laureate, who had spent 14 of the last 20 years under the house arrest in Burma (Myanmar) is our hero, and we could not help, but join a movement to raise awareness about the situation in Burma. Influenced by both Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence and by Buddhist concepts, Burmese people with Aung San Suu Kyi as their leader choose non-violent approach and call upon the Western World to influence their government to allow for true freedom and democratization in Burma.

We partnered with Free Burma Alliance (FBA) in our efforts to create marketing and fundraising campaigns to raise awareness about humanitarian crisis in Burma. While it is hard not to touch political issues when dealing with this cause, we choose to avoid politics and focus on humanitarian issues, particularly on humanitarian aid for suffering women and children of Burma.

Objectives:

  • Promote visionary woman- Nobel Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi as a leader of pacifism and nonviolent resistance
  • Build awareness about humanitarian crisis in Burma (Myanmar) through integrated marketing campaign consisting of series of special events and social media marketing
  • Raise funds to provide food, education, school supplies, shelter, and health care to the maltreated women and children of Burma.
  • Assist partner organization -Free Burma Alliance (FBA) in its sales and marketing strategy development, community relations, partnership and communications, as well as promote Free Burma Alliance through Network 355 constituencies

Our Achievements:

Since the beginning of our collaboration with Free Burma Alliance in January 2010 we have raised $20,000 to benefit Burmese children refugees at Mae Tao Clinic. Network 355 provided full life-cycle event management for FBA Fundraiser at the Friar’s Club on April 7, 2010, such as securing the sponsors, developing and managing the budget, soliciting silent auction donations, marketing, promotion and onsite management. Network 355 advised Free Burma Alliance on its brand and marketing strategy, fund development, community relations, partnership development and assisted with written communications.
